the bar at deep playa: the sunrise saloon

I wrote in one of my burning man stories, the story of a mysterious bar out in deep playa. There were hot girls dancing out on the bar in the middle of the middle of nowhere, and it blew my mind.

They put up a cool site for the Sunrise Saloon. It's almost like a little game...there's a little area in each photo you can click to see the next one.

I love the deep playa story. It's so reminiscent of everything that Burning Man '04 was to me. BRC was fantastic, but I spent hours every night biking alone in deep playa, stumbling across whatever it was that I happened to find.

I had one sunny afternoon experience where I found a door in the middle of nowhere. I parked my bike and knocked on it. No one answered, so I opened the door, stepped through the threshold, and closed it quietly behind me. I sat on the ground on the other side and relaxed for a few minutes, then I heard a knock. "Come in!", I sang out, and a girl stepped through with a big smile and offered me a popsicle from her thermal backpack. 110 degrees and here we sat side by side, companionably enjoying our popsicles before setting out in opposite directions for whatever was going to come next.

I didn't go this year -- I wasn't in the right space -- but I'm sure I'll go again.
