The Story Begins

Rachel picked out a route for us that she took in previous years that had us staying at this nice campsite in Summer Lake with a warm natural spring pool. We drove all day and got here just after dark.

Summer Lake seems to be a huge salt lake. Everything is dead around it, just a big beach of salty dust. We didn't get a chance to investigate it ourselves, but the camp was mostly burners and we talked to several people.

Saw some jackrabbits alive, saw some dead.

The pool was poured cement inside what looked like an old stable. At 10 p.m. there were about a dozen people floating about and talking Burning Man. About supplies, food, water, camp, first time, boobies. Well, no one talked about the boobies, but they were thought fondly of and well appreciated. Oh yeah, also stories of forgetting tickets and having to go back for them after an hour or ten of driving.

It's okay to be rowdy as long as you follow the Oregon State Pool Rules.

Kim and I went out and laid under the stars for awhile, a bit of a novelty for city dwellers. Kim said she liked to talk about the nature of reality and she sure meant it. She answered all my questions about the nature of reality with real thought and came up with some good questions of her own.
